What is a Chiropractic Adjustment?
Chiropractors emphasize the conservative management of the neuromuskuloskeletal system without the use of medicines or surgery, with special emphasis on the spine and extremities. There are many types of Chiropractic treatment protocols taught in the many Chiropractic Colleges around the world. My own treatment style is called the Diversified Technique. This is a widely used type of chiropractic manipulation/adjustment that includes most of the procedures taught in the majority Chiropractic institutions. It is the most commonly used technique of all, and is probably the one most familiar to the majority of Chiropractic patients. The Diversified adjustment entails a high velocity, low-amplitude thrust delivered by hand to promote a positive effect on "subluxations" of the spine. It can sometimes be assisted by the use of specialized tables with "drop" pieces that help the Doctor "move" or adjust a subluxated spinal motion unit or "joint". Chiropractors are also trained adjust/manipulate almost all of the joints of the body including the feet and ankles, shoulders, elbows and wrists and even the knees and hips. Most Chiropractors including myself also offer a number of therapies to improve the function and decrease pain and spasm of the muscles.
